Original Poem

Translation (English)

You are not reality, you are a desire What you find in dreams is like treasure I am alive only because of you I would die if I had time away from you You are the scent of a dream's fragrance And just as uncaring You are beside me but not at ease As if there is a distance You are the stretch of color and scent How can one complain about a stretch How can I leave you, my dear You are a habit of my life Why do you look in the mirror You are more beautiful than even yourself The story is about to end You are my last love

Detailed Explanation

This ghazal by Jaun Elia delves into the themes of love, longing, and the ephemeral nature of relationships. The poet begins by expressing that the beloved is not a tangible reality but a yearning, akin to a treasure found only in dreams. The poet's existence is intertwined with the presence of the beloved, suggesting that life would lose its meaning without them. The beloved is described as the essence of a dream, beautiful yet unattainable, and indifferent to the poet's feelings. Despite being physically close, there is an emotional distance, creating a sense of separation. The poet compares the beloved to a stretch of color and fragrance, emphasizing their beauty and allure. The poet struggles with the idea of parting from the beloved, as they have become an integral part of life. The beloved's beauty surpasses even their reflection, highlighting their unmatched allure. The poem concludes with a poignant acknowledgment that the relationship is nearing its end, marking the beloved as the poet's final love. This ghazal captures the complexity of love, where beauty and longing coexist with the inevitability of separation.
